Track Premiere: Split/Cross – “Dis-seption”

As our loyal Vault Hunters are well aware, brevity isn’t exactly my strong suit. However, I’m going to do my best here because “Dis-seption,” the track we’re premiering today from Pennsylvania hardcore/crust punk trio Split/Cross, is powerful enough on its own.

So here’s what you need to know:

  • The song is from their forthcoming debut Rise of Discontent, which they’re self-releasing on Jan. 31.
  • It’s an almost perfect cross of the crusty, abrasive doom of Primitive Man and the crusty hardcore of a band like Dropdead.
  • The sample that opens the track is from a TEDxToronto talk by Mark Henick called “Why We Choose Suicide.”

When asked about the track, the band were equally brief in their response:

“Dis-seption” is a song about growing up being put down or set aside due to mental illness, and others’ lack of understanding of mental illness.

If you or someone you know is in distress or threatening self-harm, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
