As our loyal Vault Hunters are well aware, brevity isn’t exactly my strong suit. However, I’m going to do my best here because “Dis-seption,” the track we’re premiering today from Pennsylvania hardcore/crust punk trio Split/Cross, is powerful enough on its own.
So here’s what you need to know:
- The song is from their forthcoming debut Rise of Discontent, which they’re self-releasing on Jan. 31.
- It’s an almost perfect cross of the crusty, abrasive doom of Primitive Man and the crusty hardcore of a band like Dropdead.
- The sample that opens the track is from a TEDxToronto talk by Mark Henick called “Why We Choose Suicide.”
When asked about the track, the band were equally brief in their response:
“Dis-seption” is a song about growing up being put down or set aside due to mental illness, and others’ lack of understanding of mental illness.
