Evansville’s Faerie Ring are prepped to release their debut album next month via King Volume Records. The band evolved from the after-work jam sessions of guitarist Kyle Hulgus and drummer Joey Rhew. The pair realized that they had something special and quickly added guitarist/vocalist James Wallwork and bassist Alex Henderson to make their post-work improvisations an official project. After playing some regional shows, the band sought out Aaron Travis to capture the audio landscape that they carefully cultivated into their full-length debut, The Clearing.
The Clearing is an exceptionally strong first outing for Faire Ring collecting seven expansive and dynamic tunes that push the boundaries of stoner rock. Each song is a journey with quiet valleys and thundering peaks that reveal more and more with repeated listens. While still capturing the spontaneity and rawness of their initial jam sessions, it manages to be a sophisticated offering with sharp grooves and whistful passages that build to crushing crescendos. In short, it’s a remarkable release, and it further cements Indiana’s place as a prominent fixture in the doom and stoner scene.
With our publication being based out of Indiana, it’s always gratifying when a band from our fair state set themselves up to take the leap from our underground scene into the national spotlight. We’re honored to help them along their way by sharing a new track from The Clearing with our readers today. “Somnium” is an excellent representation of what you can expect from the group’s upcoming release, so scroll down, grab some smoke, and click play to start your journey.
